Suitland, CDP (Census Designated Place) is located in Prince George's County, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. In the past, Suitland leaned toward agriculture, but it has since shifted to a residential suburban area that has experienced major population growth. Suitland is home to the Census Bureau, schools, and a multitude of housing developments, apartment homes, and suburb-like neighborhoods that house 25,000 people. Suitland has, in recent years, undergone significant changes, especially in terms of community development and crime reduction. Much of these changes can be attributed to a long history of community activism that began during the Civil Rights Movement and continues today to make Suitland a community based on collective action.
